Franz Wendler was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, where his passion for filmmaking began with building stories through Lego figures. He later moved to Tallinn, Estonia, and earned a BA in Audiovisual Media with a focus on cinematography from the Baltic Film, Media & Arts School (BFM). Throughout his career he shot films, including "Singlas" (2022), which premiered at Northern Europe's biggest Film Festival in Tallinn (PÖFF), "Don’t Cry" (2023), "Grey Skies" (2024), and "Line of Sight" (2024), which premiered in 2025 at the Doc.Berlin Documentary Film Festival. His focus lies on narrative and documentary films. Franz approaches cinematography as a language—one that reaches beyond words and enables meaningful connection through a distinct visual voice. Now based in Berlin, he works as a cinematographer and camera assistant while actively exploring how AI can enhance filmmaking without sacrificing authenticity, creativity, or the collaborative nature of the craft.
